The Security Settings panel allows database administrators to assign access permissions to groups of users within the database.
IMPORTANT: This panel is only visible to Admin users.
Group Policy
Security permissions in Artsystem5 are managed by group policy.
Each individual user has a Name and Password that allow them access to the database, and each group of users has a set of assigned permissions which apply to all contained users. Admin privileges can be assigned to groups or individual users with the checkbox.
Permissions
When a group is selected, click +Permissions to expand the section for managing the group policy.
A policy should be constructed by carefully expanding or contracting each hierarchy, and using the checkboxes under Display and Edit to allow or deny the privilege. Each module is represented, along with associated reports and actions, allowing granular control over access to just about every field and module within the system. When finished editing the policy, click Apply to save the changes.
IMPORTANT: Many of the listed items will work in tandem with one another. For example, if Display is unchecked for an item, Edit rights will also be removed automatically. Likewise, if Display is unchecked for Works>Value>Active Retail, then ANY reports which include the Active Retail field will be restricted regardless of whether they are unchecked or not.
To achieve the best results, it is advisable to begin with full privileges enabled (all items checked), and then proceed to uncheck, apply, and test removal of permissions incrementally.
NOTE: Security is used to manage database field display and editing privileges, not content. In other words, access to specific Artists or Works records cannot be restricted by editing a group policy.
