Use the Image Specifications panel to adjust global settings governing all image attachments in Artsystem5. Default settings are shown in the screenshot above.
IMPORTANT: Image attachment file size can affect database performance with regard to browsing, loading, generating reports, and downloading CMS exports. For optimum balance of file size, quality, and performance, Artsystems recommends using the default settings.
Source Files
During the attachment process, source image files are saved to the A5 server according to the settings on this page. When preparing images for attachment to Artsystem5, use the following specifications for the files:
- appropriately cropped and rotated
- baseline optimized JPEG format*, sRGB, with no layers
- NO special characters in filenames. Filenames should be alphanumeric, and exclude the following types of characters: * / \ % # $ ' ? , ! : ; " ` @ { } [ ] ( ) < >
- 20 MB, or smaller, recommended file size for efficient attachment
- saved to the local computer [although it is sometimes possible to upload directly to A5 from cloud-based storage like Dropbox and GoogleDrive, files should be saved locally for best results]
*NOTE for iPhone source images: Artsystem5 is not compatible with images captured using the proprietary Apple HEIF format. Although these image files often use the ".jpg" extension, they are not truly JPEG image files. Files in this format must be converted prior to attachment. It is recommended to capture images in the "Most Compatible" format when using iPhone. For further information on working with files in this format, please review the linked Apple support document.
Type
All image attachments to Artsystem5 are saved as JPG when uploaded. This is configured by default and cannot be changed. There are no other file types possible at this time.
Quality
Use this setting to adjust the JPG output quality. The options are relative to how much compression is applied to the resulting attachment file.
- Maximum - The highest quality, will also result in the largest file with the least compression
- High - The default quality, offers the best balance of size and quality
- Medium - The lowest quality, will also result in the smallest file with the most compression
File Size
The file size for image attachments is constrained by this setting to the number of pixels in the longest dimension, regardless of the source file resolution.
- Fit within 2048 x 2048 - the largest size is also the default
- Fit within 1024 x 1024 - the medium size option
- Fit within 640 x 640 - the smallest size option
- Custom - enter a custom number of pixels
NOTE: The Custom setting should only be used when directed by Artsystems Support.
Create Thumbnail Images
Image thumbnails are always created by Artsystems data technicians during database conversion, and all new image attachments in Artsystem5 will always create a thumbnail by default. Use of this button is NOT necessary unless directed by Artsystems Support.
