Clicking the magnifying glass icon on the Main Toolbar opens and closes the Search bar.
When Search is open, an additional menu bar is displayed below the black toolbar menu. Users can search just about any field, within any module, by using the Search bar. For the most relevant results, be sure to use the search bar options according to the details below.
Search Type
The selected Search Type will operate relative to the currently loaded module or dataset designated in the Module Display area of the Main Toolbar. Choose between All Records and Current List in the dropdown menu.
All Records - Always refers to all records within the selected module. When using Search, the currently loaded dataset will be superseded when the Search Type is set to "All Records", and the results will show matching records from the entire module.
Current List - Search only the records within the currently loaded dataset or list of results. Useful fo carrying out quick refinements to a query, or nested searches. After completing an All Records search, switch the Search Type to "Current List" and search again targeting only those results in the spreadsheet view.
Field Selector
Use the dropdown list to target an available field within the module and limit the scope of the search.
NOTE: The standard default Search In selection for all modules is All Fields, but users can set a custom Default Search Field for some modules using the SETTINGS panel.
IMPORTANT: Fields which are linked from a separate module, i.e. Works:Location or Works:Sold To are not targeted by an "All Fields" search. Instead, these fields can be searched by targeting them individually using the field selector.
Linked fields can be identified as those which are edited by clicking the Edit/Pencil button.
Operator Button
Click the operator button to toggle between two different types of Search for box.
Search Anywhere - This is the default setting, indicated by the ✽asterisk. The operator is set to find the search term anywhere within the targeted field.
Search From the Beginning - Switch to the ⟩ operator to restrict the search box to finding the search term only from the beginning of the text string of the targeted field.

The default Anywhere setting casts the widest net possible, and so the most common reason to use the ⟩ operator is to quickly refine results beyond what this default operator can provide.
EXAMPLE: The user is searching for an artwork with the title "Blue Ocean Sunset." Searching the Title field for the terms ✽Blue, ✽Ocean, ✽Sunset, or even ✽Blue Ocean Sunset would yield too many results, because all of these terms are heavily represented in artwork titles within the database. So, to get the best results, it is helpful to change the operator and Search for ⟩ Blue, which yields only those records where "Blue" is at the beginning of the title.
Search Box
Enter the Search Terms here. Click once to highlight the box and a blinking cursor will indicate it is ready for text entry. It is also possible to copy and paste into this box. When the search terms have been filled into the box, press enter/return on the keyboard, or any available Search Action button.
After a search, click the Clear icon to remove all text from the Search Box, making it ready for a fresh set of search terms.
Search Action Buttons
After entering terms into the search box, the Search Action Buttons can be used to display results. If no results match the current query, the Search Bar will display "No Record Found".
Find First - click this button to display the first individual result matching the search term
Find Next - click this button to display the next individual result matching the search term
Find All - click this button to display a list of all results matching the search term
Reset - click this button to clear the current results and reset the search back to the originating module dataset
