The Artsystem5 database application is web-based software which is accessed using a web browser. Choosing the appropriate browser is an important first step when getting started.
A5 is designed to work with any browser, as long as there is a connection to the internet, but Artsystems Support has a few recommendations to help users get the best performance and stability.
Suggested Browsers
- Mozilla Firefox
- Opera
The browsers above will provide an optimal operating environment for Artsystem5, and they are strongly suggested by the Artsystems team. Using a recommended browser can ensure delivery of the most effective Support assistance if needed.
Dedicated Browser Environment
All browsers strive to deliver a consistent experience when navigating the web, but there are differences between web pages and web applications, like Artsystem5, where best practices can affect performance. For instance, when a browser has multiple open tabs resource usage becomes fractured, and application speed can suffer. Running A5 in a dedicated browser (as the only open page or tab) will provide the user with several convenient benefits:
- Performance - all browser resources available and dedicated to Artsystem5
- Efficiency - cache and cookies can be cleared quickly and completely
- Tidiness - A5 has an application window all to itself, not buried among other tabs
- Automation - browsers can be configured to clear data automatically when closed
Updates
Modern browsers often behave like self-contained operating systems. For security, performance, and stability Artsystems strongly recommends keeping the browser updated to the latest version.
Clearing Cache and Cookies
A bottleneck for performance in all browsers occurs when the same data or code needs to be transferred repeatedly over the network. To avoid this issue, browsers will cache, or store, bits of information locally for quick access when needed. Similarly, cookies are also regularly used by browsers to store preferences and history, with the same intent. Although this can increase performance in the short term, when a browser cache gets too crowded, or the information becomes out of date, it is very important to flush this local repository and force the browser to reload the website data. Artsystem5 uses both cache and cookies during normal operation, and it is recommended to clear these items periodically as needed.
IMPORTANT: Clearing cache/cookies by any method, including those described below, will always require the user to quit A5 and log back in again, so the browser can reload the application.
Firefox - Clearing Cache
Opera - Clearing Cache
Artsystems - Clearing Cookies
- In the Main Navigation menu click SETTINGS>Advanced
- On the Advanced panel, click the Clear A5 Cookies button
